MOMO COMPLETES THE SCORE TO
SIGN LANGUAGE, APR'07

Silver Bell Films' quirky romantic short, Sign Language, is in final post production – chock full of tunes.

There's nothing like finishing something. Even if you feel a little coy about your concept-to-budget ratio, it's always worth wrapping a project properly and putting it in the portfolio. I've always blathered on about this, anyway. So I'm glad to see Ben Campbell finally complete this very friendly short for Silver Bell.

At the end of it, I am reminded that scoring for comedy takes more creative clout than noodling about in dark alleys. Less is more with drama – you've got plenty of time to put the kettle on before the inevitable chase scene demands something of your drum machine. But with comedy – jeepers – there's just so much to do. Which is partly why this film helped me produce a cute range of music I've really ended up liking. The two leads in this, Jonny and Klemens, also did much to keep the smiles appearing through the edits – I mean, how did those two meet?.

All this was so jolly, in fact, that I felt prompted to do something insanely vain – an end-credit song. After ups and downs, thoughtful and daft, it was obvious that Sign Language really wanted a big-smile finish – and penning the big-wink words to The Promise of Love just seemed to flow.

Check out the Demo pages to hear just some of the results – and watch out for clips and links to the film soon.
